We are proud to administer Learn to Skate USA, the only program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and U.S. Speedskating.
Learn to Skate USA is a progressive system that develops ALL skaters.  Classes are organized by age specific levels to teach the "fun"damentals of skating.

4. Register with Learn to Skate USA.  This is a yearly (July 1-June 30th) registration of $17.25. Please bring membership number with you to week one of class.

LEARN TO SKATE USA
Hollydell Ice Arena welcomes you to the wonderful world of ice skating.  We are proud to administer Learn to Skate USA, the only program endorsed by U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey & US Speedskating.   Whether the goal is to pursue a path in ice hockey, figure skating, or speed skating, every beginner needs strong fundamental skating skills.  Learn to Skate USA is a progressive system that develops skaters so they can confidently advance to more specialized areas of skating (i.e. ice hockey, all disciplines in figure skating, and speed skating).   The curriculum is designed to serve the needs of both the recreational and competitive skater.  Classes are organized by age specific levels and teaches the "fun"-damentals of skating.
Our highly qualified coaching staff is certified "Learn to Skate USA" and "USFS" instructors.  Private lessons are available upon request.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOUR FIRST CLASS

  • Skaters receive 30 minutes of instruction each week for 6 weeks.
  • Skaters have an additional 30 minutes available each week to practice independently.  
  • If needed, rental skates are provided at no additional cost.
  • Helmets are required for all tots in snowplow sam levels, and highly recommended for all beginners including adults and teens.
  • Helmets are not available to rent.  Please bring your own properly fitted helmet.  An all sports helmet or hockey helmet is recommended.
  • Adults accompanying skaters are NOT permitted on the ice (with or without skates) during instruction or during the optional practice time.
  • Learn to skate classes are scheduled on an hour ice time slot.  Instruction may be the first 30 minutes or the second 30 minutes of the hour slot.  All snowplow 1, basic 1, and adult beginner classes are always scheduled in the first 30 minutes.  All other classes can be either the first or second half hour.
  • Skaters must attend the class time and day for which they register
  • PLEASE REMEMBER/ WEAR: Helmet, gloves, warm layers of moveable clothing, thin socks that go a few inches above the ankle.

WHAT CLASS SHOULD I SIGN UP FOR?

INTRODUCTORY GROUP LESSONS FOR ALL AGES

SNOWPLOW SAM

AGES 3-6 

Snowplow Sam is designed for kids 6 years and younger with no prior skating experience.  Classes are designed to develop the "ABC's of movement- Agility, Balance, Coordination and speed."  All classes incorporate fun games and activities to keep the kids moving and having fun!  Toddlers start out in Snowplow Sam 1 and progress through the levels.

HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.  Kids should also wear gloves and layers of warm clothing which are easy to move in.  Kids will need to sit on the ice during the lesson- dress warm.

 

Take a peek at what your toddler will be learning in Snowplow Sam.  If you have any questions don't hesitate to talk to your instructor after class.

BASIC SKILLS

AGES 6 and UP 

Classes are designed for kids over 6 years old and teens.  Basic Skill classes teach the FUNdamentals of ice skating and provides a solid foundation of skills for skating.  Skaters are progressively introduced to forward and backward skating, stops, edges, crossovers, and turns.   Skaters interested in pursuing ice hockey are encouraged to learn and achieve a solid foundation of fundamental skating and edge skills taught in our basic skill program.  Skaters interested in figure skating that complete all 6 levels will be confident to advance to more specialized areas of figure skating.  All classes are taught in a positive, FUN, and social environment.  Skaters progress at their own rate and should be secure in all skills before moving to the next level.

Take a look at the progression of skills taught in Basic Skills in the curriculum sheet below.   Don't hesitate to ask your instructor your questions after class.  We are here to help and want to make your time at our rink a great experience for your family.

ADULT BASIC SKILLS

Classes are designed for beginner to more experienced adults who wish to improve their skating skills.  Participating in the program will help promote physical fitness and improve balance and coordination while teaching proper skating techniques.  Whether you simply want to know how to skate around the rink unassisted or choose to pursue a competitive route in figure skating, ice hockey, or speed skating, Adult 1 is a great place to start!

HELMETS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.  Skaters should wear gloves and layers of warm clothing which are easy to move in.  

In case of inclement weather, please call the rink (856-589-5599) for any cancellations

DURING LESSON TIME

  • We ask the instructors not to be interrupted while on the ice

  • Parents and spectators should remain seated in the bleachers or in the snack bar area

  • No one is permitted to stand near any ice door
